Gov. Pritzker Signs COVID-19 Worker Protections Into Law

Governor JB Pritzker signed into law an expansion of unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation designed to benefit workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The measure includes seven additional benefit weeks for unemployed workers and includes those previously excluded, and $2 billion dollars in additional federal funding. The new law also expands workers’ compensation protection to first responders and essential workers who contract COVID-19 on the job.
