Laborers represented by the LIUNA Chicago Laborers’ District Council are part of a group of investors who announced purchase of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Reader, and the straightdope.com website yesterday. The group of investors which includes several labor organizations and individuals also purchased Answers Media, a full-service digital communications company. The intent is to combine these pieces into a powerful, multi-platform news organization, while preserving the journalistic integrity and excellence that the Chicago Sun-Times in known for.
“In an era in which news is dominated by corporate interests, the members of the LIUNA Chicago Laborers’ District Council believe it’s especially important to maintain the Sun-Times as an independent newspaper that covers the issues affecting the interests and perspectives of the working and middle classes,” said James P. Connolly, Business Manager of LIUNA Chicago Laborers’ District Council.
